Emio and Gundam Breaker 4 Lead Today's Switch Games

Author: Jacob Jan 17,2025

Hello, readers! Welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024. Today's roundup features a substantial lineup of new game releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column, as is customary. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. Unfortunately, Nintendo Directs aren't a daily occurrence, so that's all the major news we have today. Let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus, delivering a new case faithful to the originals. This new mystery unfolds with a presentation reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Will you crack the latest serial murder case? My review is coming soon.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunplas! While the Switch port understandably lags behind other versions in performance, it's perfectly playable. Read Mikhail's excellent review for the full details.

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its successful run of remakes, this time tackling an 8-bit classic. Expect a more significant departure from the source material than in their previous 16-bit remakes. Fans of classic-style action-platformers should find this appealing. My review drops early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A departure from its predecessor, Valfaris: Mecha Therion is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the genre shift might surprise some, it offers a satisfying experience. My review is on the way!

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails, but the food imagery is stunning. Is it about taking photos, uncovering secrets, or something else? Perhaps Mikhail will shed some light on this one.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

For monster truck enthusiasts, this game delivers local and online multiplayer, multiple game modes, and more. Reception on other platforms has been mixed, but it might satisfy fans of the genre.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

This appears to be a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, however, it approaches the cost of an actual Atelier game, making the value proposition less clear. Still, it looks like the best-looking WitchSpring yet.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Investigate your missing crew's fate in a vast, perilous underwater world. Combat is involved. This title has received positive reviews on other platforms.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

Voltaire, a vegan vampire, rebels against his bloodthirsty father. Gameplay involves farming and fending off his father's attacks. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by this genre, those with more enthusiasm might enjoy it.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Secret collectibles and special challenges await. If you enjoy high-speed marble rolling, this is for you.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A firefighting game geared towards a younger audience, featuring 20 missions. While not overly realistic, it might appeal to kids.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly solid, the Switch version suffers from technical issues that impact the overall experience.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, retro shooter for fans of the genre.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack introducing a new underworld to explore. Gameplay mirrors the original, but with increased difficulty. Notably, this features the debut of Yuzo Koshiro.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A horror/survival/roguelite game best experienced with online multiplayer (up to 10 players). Solo play caters to a more niche audience.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you're a sentient tin can dealing with worms. 100 handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja-themed challenges. Local multiplayer or CPU competition is available.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A surprisingly fun game with two modes: falling blocks and a wood-block puzzle style. The goal is to make rows/columns adding up to multiples of ten.
