"We’re thrilled to share this moment with our fans," BioWare announced on Twitter (X). They also provided a roadmap of upcoming reveals to keep the excitement building towards the launch. "In the coming weeks, expect high-level warrior combat gameplay, Companions Week, and more," the developers shared. Here’s a detailed look at the game's roadmap:

• August 26th: Companions Week
• August 30th: Developer Discord Q&A
• September 3rd: IGN First Month-Long Exclusive Coverage Begins

And that's just the beginning! BioWare has promised even more exciting reveals for September and beyond!

A Decade-Long Development

The journey to bring Dragon Age: The Veilguard to life has been long and challenging, marked by numerous delays that stretched the release timeline by nearly a decade. Development kicked off in 2015, shortly after the launch of Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, BioWare's focus shifted to other major projects like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem, pulling resources and talent away from what was then codenamed "Joplin." Additionally, the initial design did not fit BioWare's new direction towards live-service games, leading to a complete halt in development.

It wasn't until 2018 that The Veilguard was revived, this time under the codename "Morrison." After years of dedicated work, the game was officially announced as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2022 before finally being renamed to Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Despite these hurdles, the wait is almost at an end. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is slated to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S this fall. So, mark your calendars, because the return to Thedas is just around the corner.
