Dishonored 2 Gets Surprise Update 9 Years After Launch

Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox

Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has received a small, unexpected update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. This minor patch appears focused on bug fixes and language updates, rather than the performance enhancements many players desired.

Released in late 2016, Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding upon the original game's acclaimed gameplay and level design. While the developer, Arkane Lyon, has since created Deathloop (2021) and is currently working on Marvel's Blade, the closure of Arkane Austin (developer of the original Dishonored and Prey) in 2024 has impacted the studio's output.

The recent Dishonored 2 update, weighing in at a mere 230MB (though requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), has sparked discussion among fans. Many expressed disappointment that it doesn't include a much-requested 60 FPS mode. This is particularly notable given that other Arkane titles, including the original Dishonored and even the standalone Death of the Outsider, offer 60 FPS performance on newer consoles via backwards compatibility enhancements. The possibility of a 60 FPS patch for Dishonored 2's tenth anniversary in 2026 remains speculative.

The lack of a new mainline Dishonored game also continues to be a point of discussion among fans. With Arkane Austin's closure and Arkane Lyon's focus on Marvel's Blade, a new Dishonored title seems far off, if it's even in development.
