Author: Julian May 13,2025

The critically acclaimed series *Shōgun*, which has garnered 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is set to return for an eagerly anticipated second season. According to an official press release from FX, Cosmo Jarvis will reprise his role as pilot John Blackthorn and step into the role of co-executive producer for Season 2.

Hiroyuki Sanada, who plays the lead and signed on for the new season last May after the show was renewed despite its initial limited series format, has been elevated to the position of executive producer. Following his contributions to the original run, Sanada will continue to steer the series creatively. Production for Season 2 is scheduled to commence in January 2026 in Vancouver, the same location where the first season was filmed.

FX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was an adaptation of James Clavell's novel. The network provided insights into the narrative connection between the two seasons:

“In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (played by Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship, with its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis), brought vital strategic secrets that shifted the balance of power in Toranaga's favor, ultimately helping him win a pivotal civil war.

"The second part of *Shōgun* is set a decade after the events of the first season and will continue the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds, whose destinies remain deeply intertwined."

Fans of the series can look forward to new episodes potentially by the end of 2026, though for now, all we can do is wait and hope for the best.
