Tentacle Tactics
Nu Udra presents a significant challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its massive tentacles grant it impressive reach, making evasion tricky. However, these same tentacles are also within reach for melee fighters, offering an attack point. Severing its arms yields valuable materials, but proceed cautiously—these limbs pack a punch.
Target the Maw
Ranged weapon users have more strategic options. The optimal target is Nu Udra's mouth, though its almost entirely black hide makes it difficult to spot. Despite this, the mouth boasts a 4-star weakness. The head is another viable target, offering a 3-star weakness to ammo damage but remains effective for blunt and cut damage.
Harness the Power of Watermoss
Nu Udra possesses a fire affinity. Beyond its tentacle attacks, it utilizes fire-based assaults. At a certain point, it even ignites itself, posing a significant threat due to the Fireblight debuff. Using Watermoss is highly recommended to mitigate this and allow for safer attacks.
Embrace Fire Resistance
For a smoother fight, equip fire-resistant gear. The Quematrice armor set, with its Fire Resistance skill, is a strong recommendation. Fire Res Jewels significantly reduce fire damage, while Stream Jewels enhance water-based attacks.
Beware the Grasp
Nu Udra's grab attack is particularly dangerous. If you're too close, it may ensnare you with its tentacles, followed by a fiery blast. During the brief pause after the grab, use a knife to escape or utilize your Slinger to attack its weak point.

Capturing the Black Flame

To capture Nu Udra, prepare either a Pitfall or Shock Trap. However, deployment requires weakening the monster to near-death. A skull icon next to the boss icon indicates readiness. Luring it with meat or simply running behind the trap while it targets you are both effective strategies. Once trapped, immediately use a Tranquilizer. You have approximately five seconds before it breaks free.
This guide covers defeating and capturing Nu Udra in Monster Hunter Wilds. This hunt is challenging solo; consider multiplayer for assistance.
