Capcom has subtly hinted at the upcoming Resident Evil 9 through a celebratory video released on April 25, 2025, marking the impressive milestone of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4. The video features Ada Wong engaging in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by scenes of Leon surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats, advancing towards a church.
The video takes an amusing turn with Dr. Salvador playing his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, set to a rock song, and ends with Leon energetically fist-pumping. Behind him, a rustic sign reads "Thank you for playing." However, a closer look reveals that when turned sideways, the boards on the sign form the Roman numeral "IX," or the number 9.
While this could be dismissed as a mere coincidence, the horror game insider Dusk Golem highlighted that a lower plank, crucial to forming the numeral, was absent in earlier scenes of the video, suggesting its deliberate addition. This observation has sparked excitement and speculation among fans.
One fan expressed their astonishment, saying, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.
Capcom has officially announced that the next installment in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be helmed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi previously mentioned the challenges of following up Resident Evil 7, stating, "But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Although not confirmed, rumors suggest that the game's setting might be an island inspired by Singapore.
