Mobile premium game updates usually improve optimization or compatibility. However, Capcom's recent update for Resident Evil 7 biohazard, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Resident Evil Village on iOS and iPadOS introduces an online DRM system. This DRM verifies game and DLC ownership upon launch. Rejecting the verification closes the game. This means constant online connectivity is now mandatory, unlike previous versions. This unwelcome change negatively impacts the user experience by removing offline playability.

Pre-update testing confirmed offline functionality. Post-update, the DRM prompt appears, and refusing access terminates the game. While some players may not be bothered, the addition of this online DRM to already-purchased games is problematic. Ideally, Capcom would implement a less intrusive purchase verification method, perhaps checking less frequently. This situation unfortunately makes recommending Capcom's premium mobile ports more difficult.
