Ananta Emerges from Mugen

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta.

Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta (formerly Project Mugen) has finally released a new trailer after a prolonged silence. More details are promised on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

The Name Change Explained (Or Not)

Developers haven't yet commented on the name change. Interestingly, both "Ananta" (Sanskrit) and "Mugen" (Japanese) translate to "infinite," a thematic consistency reflected in the Chinese title.

The gaming community is divided on the rebranding, but universally relieved the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn with Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually striking, its lack of gameplay footage leaves Neverness to Everness potentially ahead in many players' eyes. Personally, I find Ananta's visuals more compelling.

A Curious Turn of Events

Adding to the intrigue, the development team has deleted all previous social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This fresh start has left many gamers puzzled, as a simple renaming of existing accounts would have been simpler.

In Ananta, players assume the role of an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator confronting supernatural chaos. The cast includes characters like Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
