Celebrating Devarattam: A Digital Legacy

This application, a project titled "Digital Revolution of Devarattam," is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Devarattam. This tribute honors Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (retired teacher), Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, recipients of the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMAMANI, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards, respectively. My gratitude also extends to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the esteemed figures of Devarattam.

The app serves as a comprehensive resource, showcasing Devarattam and its accomplished artists. Devarattam, a traditional Tamil Nadu folk dance, boasts a history spanning generations, with its continued practice by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. While the dance incorporates 32 fundamental steps, variations can extend the sequence to 72 steps.

Devarattam dancers gracefully perform, each hand adorned with a kerchief and each leg with salangai (ankle bells), accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.
