Ygwulf

In the opening chapters of *Avowed*'s main quest, the Envoy becomes the target of a tragic assassination. After unraveling the mystery of their own murder with the help of Kai and Marius in Paradis, you'll uncover that the assassin is none other than Ygwulf, a member of the Paradisan Rebels who fiercely oppose Aedyr's presence in the region. As the Emperor's Envoy, you're a prime target for their cause.

Your journey leads you to Ygwulf's underground hideout, where you'll need to navigate through numerous enemies and challenging platforming sections. Make sure to stock up on Health Potions and equip your best gear for this encounter. As you explore the dungeon, you may come across documents that shed light on Ygwulf's true intentions and his growing remorse. He initially believed that the Gods demanded the Envoy's death, but later realized his visions were misguided. When you finally confront him, Ygwulf expresses regret and is prepared to face justice for his actions.

What Happens If You Spare Ygwulf or He Turns Himself In?

Choosing to have Ygwulf turn himself in to the Inquisitor of the Steel Garrote is the least favorable option. He would face the brutal wrath of Inquisitor Lödwyn, likely resulting in a painful death. Moreover, this choice yields fewer rewards compared to sparing him or defeating him in combat. If you decide to spare Ygwulf, he will offer you 625 Copper Skeyt and some Adra as a token of gratitude. While these resources are helpful, they won't change your fortunes dramatically. Unfortunately, sparing Ygwulf only delays the inevitable, as he meets his demise later in the story regardless of your choice.

Why You Should Kill Ygwulf in Avowed

Given that Ygwulf's fate is sealed, opting to attack him during your confrontation is the most beneficial choice. This decision leads to a boss fight, providing valuable practice for future encounters in *Avowed*. Additionally, defeating Ygwulf grants you the best loot among the available options. Upon his defeat, you can loot his body for currency, Adra, and his unique armor set, Blackwing. Not only does the Blackwing armor look impressive, but it also offers significant stealth advantages, including a +30% damage boost when attacking from stealth and a 25% movement speed increase when crouching, making it easier to evade enemies.

Does Ygwulf’s Fate Affect the Story in Avowed? SPOILER WARNING

Despite being introduced early in the game, Ygwulf's fate subtly influences the ending of *Avowed*. After completing the final gameplay section, you'll witness an artistic depiction and narration that highlight the impact of your decisions on the world of Eora within the Living Lands. Regardless of your efforts to unify and bring peace to the region, Ygwulf's death will always occur, further radicalizing the Paradisan Rebellion and ensuring their continued violent resistance against your efforts post-credits.
