Fans eagerly awaiting the release of "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse" will have to exercise patience, as star Jharrel Jerome has confirmed that production on the anticipated third film is yet to commence. In a recent interview with Decider, Jerome revealed that he hasn't even recorded any lines for the movie yet, stating, "No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things being figured out, but good things." This news comes as a slight disappointment, especially considering the five-year gap between the first film and "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse," which was released in 2023.

While Jerome's role in "Across the Spider-Verse" was relatively minor, he is poised to take on a significant role in the third installment. ***Spoiler alert for the finale of Across the Spider-Verse***: Jerome will portray Miles G. Morales from Earth-42, who, unlike the series' protagonist, did not become Spider-Man but instead became the Prowler. This alternate version of Miles had a much darker path; the radioactive spider that was meant to bite him ended up in the protagonist's reality, leading to a different fate. Without becoming Spider-Man, and after the death of his universe's Peter Parker, Miles G. Morales saw New York descend into chaos under the rule of supervillains, ultimately joining their ranks.

The narrative of how this alternate Miles clashes with the main Miles, who did become Spider-Man, is expected to be a central theme in "Beyond the Spider-Verse." However, fans will need to wait a bit longer to see this story unfold. According to Deadline, the earliest release date for the film is projected to be 2026, though maintaining the pace of the previous film's release schedule might push it to 2028.
