Spectre Divide Backlash Prompts Skin Prices to Lower Soon After Launch

Mountaintop Studios, the developers behind the newly released FPS title Spectre Divide, have swiftly addressed player concerns regarding high in-game cosmetic pricing. Just hours after launch, the studio announced significant price reductions and refunds.

Price Cuts and Refunds

Following considerable negative feedback, Spectre Divide is implementing a 17-25% price reduction across all weapons and outfits. Game director Lee Horn confirmed this adjustment, stating, "We've heard your feedback and we're making changes." To compensate players who purchased items at the original prices, Mountaintop Studios is providing a 30% SP (in-game currency) refund, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP.

This refund applies to all purchases made before the price adjustment, including those bundled with Founder's or Supporter packs. However, the studio clarified that the Starter pack, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades will remain at their original prices.

Mixed Reactions and Future Outlook

While some players appreciate the swift response and price correction, the reaction remains mixed, mirroring the game's current "Mixed" rating on Steam (49% Negative at the time of writing). The initial backlash included negative reviews and social media commentary.

Some players, while acknowledging the positive step, called for further improvements, such as the ability to purchase individual items from bundles. Others expressed concern about the reactive nature of the price adjustment, suggesting that proactive pricing strategies are crucial for the game's long-term success and competitiveness within the free-to-play market. The studio's ability to address ongoing concerns will be vital to the game's future performance.
