Sony Removes GTA 6 Parody Game from PS Store; Now Available on Steam

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody game, Grand Taking Ages, have launched a Steam page for their project after Sony removed it from the PlayStation Store. Grand Taking Ages, developed by Violarte, is described as a parody management simulator where players manage a game development studio.

Last month, the game, then titled Grand Taking Ages VI, appeared on the PlayStation Store with a May 2025 release date, using AI-generated art to satirize the anticipation for Rockstar’s GTA 6. The game included a list of unlikely features and fake awards from gaming websites, which led to its swift removal by Sony. However, after making key adjustments, Violarte has now convinced Valve to approve Grand Taking Ages for publishing on Steam.

Violarte told IGN that the game underwent a thorough review process before being approved for Steam. The Steam page now features a new trailer and updated screenshots, emphasizing the parody aspect. Significant changes include removing the "VI" from the title, altering the logo, descriptions, and overall presentation to differentiate it from GTA 6 and highlight its unique direction. While the game still uses generative AI, particularly for voice overs, Violarte disclosed this on the Steam page in compliance with Steam's AI rules.

The new description on the Steam page reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Violarte approached Valve differently than Sony, engaging with their team about the game's concept before official submission. This allowed them to align with Steam's guidelines early on. The company also cited other successful parodies like Grand Theft Hamlet as evidence that their project should be protected from takedowns.

Violarte is now seeking to have Grand Taking Ages relisted on the PlayStation Store, believing that the recent updates make it suitable for Sony's platform. They have sent a request to Sony, highlighting the changes that convinced Valve to approve the game for Steam.

The initial appearance of Grand Taking Ages VI on the PlayStation Store raised questions about Sony's curation process. In contrast, Valve's more open policy on Steam is well-known, with many games, including those using generative AI, finding a home on the platform.

Meanwhile, GTA 6 is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S in the fall of 2025.

Grand Taking Ages is back, this time on Steam.
