EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with an exciting surprise for fans. Today, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are once again available on PC through two Legacy Collections and The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle.
EA has announced the release of The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, which are available separately or combined in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle for $40. These collections include all expansions and nearly all stuff packs, with the exception of The Sims 2: Legacy Collection, which is missing the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008. Additionally, both collections come with bonus content: The Sims 1 includes the Throwback Fit Kit, while The Sims 2 features the Grunge Revival Kit alongside other add-ons.
EA's re-release of these classic The Sims games marks the first time in over a decade that both titles have been readily available to play. The Sims 1 was previously only available on disc, making it challenging to play on modern Windows machines without a physical copy and the necessary expansion packs. The Sims 2 was last available in 2014 through the Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, which was later discontinued. Now, with these new collections, all four The Sims games are easily accessible and playable through digital storefronts. When we originally reviewed them, The Sims 1 received a 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 a 8.5/10. Despite the series' evolution with new features and improvements, the original games remain noteworthy for their charm, simplicity, challenge, and historical significance.
The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are now available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app.
