Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Real and Still in Development
Team Cherry's Marketing and PR Manager, Matthew Griffin, has confirmed that Hollow Knight: Silksong is indeed real and actively progressing towards release. This confirmation follows recent speculation sparked by a cake-related profile picture change by co-creator William Pellen. While that turned out to be a harmless coincidence, Griffin's statement puts fan concerns to rest.
Confirmation from Team Cherry
Following a fan's inquiry, Griffin took to X (formerly Twitter) to explicitly state, "Yes the game is real, progressing and will release." This marks the first official update on the game's status in over a year and a half.
A Long-Awaited Sequel
Initially revealed in February 2019 with a projected release in the first half of 2023, Silksong was delayed in May 2023. Team Cherry cited the game's expanded scope and their commitment to quality as reasons for the postponement. They previously highlighted features like a new kingdom, nearly 150 new enemies, and a challenging "Silk Soul" difficulty mode.
The recent confirmation, while welcomed by many, has elicited mixed reactions. Some fans express continued excitement and offer words of encouragement to the developers, urging them to avoid succumbing to external pressure. Others, however, express growing impatience after nearly six years of waiting, feeling the update lacked substantial detail.
What We Know So Far
Silksong will follow Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, on a perilous journey to the kingdom's peak. The game is slated for release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. While a concrete release date remains unannounced, fans eagerly await further updates and announcements.
