Two years after its debut on Max, the critically acclaimed video game adaptation, The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, is set to return for a thrilling second season.

The original The Last of Us game and its first season on television both left viewers on a cliffhanger that promises significant repercussions. Fans of The Last of Us Part 2, including myself, are experiencing a mix of excitement and apprehension about what's to come. In IGN's review of Season 2, Simon Cardy notes that adapting the expansive and complex narrative of The Last of Us Part 2 into a television format was always going to be challenging. Consequently, the story will extend over a third season.

Sony and HBO have officially announced that The Last of Us will return for a third season. While no release date has been set, production is scheduled to begin this summer. It's important to note that this does not indicate the development of a third Last of Us game; Naughty Dog is currently focused on their upcoming project, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Both The Last of Us games have been remastered, with the latest edition of The Last of Us Part 2 released on PC just last week. Naughty Dog has also announced a new "Complete" edition of both games, set for a physical release this summer. In addition to the games, Sony has released a special edition DualSense controller to celebrate the series.

The Last of Us Season 2 is helmed by the original game’s creator, Neil Druckmann, and Craig Mazin (known for Chernobyl), with Haley Gross, co-writer of The Last of Us Part 2, also contributing to the writing team.
