The game first caught attention in 2022, but it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex opened signups for alpha testing of a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The official unveiling as RuneScape: Dragonwilds happened on March 31, 2025. Fans were quick to add it to their Steam wishlist on April 1, followed by the gameplay teaser on April 2.

A standout addition is the Fellhollow region, a unique area caught between the realms of life and death, ruled by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. Influenced by Ashenfall's wild anima and the cursed energy of the Underworld, players will navigate this eerie landscape with the iconic RuneScape character Death by their side.

The roadmap promises new quests, rich lore, enhanced gear, captivating music, and expanded skills in magic, ranged combat, and farming.
