The much-anticipated sequel to the beloved rhythm-based strategy game, Patapon, known as Ratatan, has finally given fans a glimpse into its world with an official gameplay trailer. This trailer, released during IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, promises to bring back the charm and excitement of its predecessor while introducing new features and mechanics.

Trailer Features Gameplay and Boss Battle

The Ratatan gameplay trailer offers an exciting look at the game's mechanics, featuring a thrilling battle against a giant boss crab. Developed by Ratatan Works, the game showcases a unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, merging the engaging elements of rhythm games with dynamic side-scrolling action.

One of the standout features highlighted in the trailer is the online co-op mode, which supports up to four players. This feature allows gamers to team up and control up to 100 characters in massive melee battles, promising a chaotic and fun-filled experience.

Ratatan is being crafted by none other than Hiroyuki Kotani, the original creator of Patapon, and features music by Kemmei Adachi, who composed the iconic Patapon soundtrack. The game's Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, has successfully met its console launch stretch goal, ensuring that Ratatan will be available on various gaming platforms upon release.

Excitement builds as Ratatan announces its closed beta test, set to commence on February 27, 2025. Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared valuable insights about the game's progress and upcoming milestones in a recent Kickstarter update.

The game has now surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and has received glowing reviews for its Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. However, Ratatan will not be featured in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, as the team's focus shifts towards perfecting the closed beta experience. The developers are committed to delivering an enhanced demo version for the Steam Next Festival in June.

During the closed beta, players can expect to explore up to Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added progressively over the month-long test period. Sakajiri emphasized that details regarding the distribution of beta codes, start date, and time will be communicated through Discord and X as soon as they are finalized.

Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation for this spiritual successor to Patapon continues to grow.
