Pokémon TCG Pocket Won’t Be In The Competitive Scene Just Yet

No Plans For Competitive Pocket

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

Currently, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join Pokémon’s competitive circuit. In an interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, Chris Brown, stated that while they are always considering different titles for the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't slated for inclusion at this time.

Brown humorously mentioned "Pokémon Sleep is out there too," referencing a parody trailer for the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament released as an April Fool’s joke. He clarified, "But at this time, there are no plans for Pokémon Pocket to join, though we’re always looking at things."

Too Early And Unbalanced

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, fans have their theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its early stages, with only four months of gameplay and two released sets.

Although the game includes competitive features from the start, players have pointed out ongoing balancing issues that need attention. Pokémon TCG Pocket is a simplified version of the original Pokémon card game, designed to be more beginner-friendly. As such, fostering a competitive atmosphere isn't its primary focus.

Despite this, the Pokémon Competitive Circuit offers a variety of events for fans, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These will all be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.
