Sony has addressed the nearly day-long PlayStation Network (PSN) outage this past weekend, citing an "operational issue" in a social media post. While the company offered no specifics about the cause or preventative measures, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive a five-day extension to their subscriptions as compensation.
The outage significantly impacted gameplay, with over a third of players unable to log in and others reporting server crashes. This incident underscores concerns from players who oppose Sony's requirement of a PSN account even for single-player PC games.
This isn't the first major PSN disruption; a significant data breach in April 2011 resulted in over 20 days of connectivity problems. Although less severe, the recent outage has left many PS5 users dissatisfied with Sony's lack of transparency regarding the cause and future prevention strategies.
