Path of Exile 2's Endgame Rituals: A Comprehensive Guide
Path of Exile 2 introduces several endgame events, including Breaches, Expeditions, Delirium, and Rituals. This guide focuses on Rituals, a revived mechanic from previous leagues, detailing how to initiate them, their mechanics, the Pinnacle boss, and the unique reward system.
Identifying and Initiating Rituals
On the Atlas, Ritual Altar map nodes are marked with a red pentagram icon featuring a demonic face. A Ritual Precursor Tablet, slotted into a completed Lost Tower, guarantees a Ritual encounter on a chosen node.
Once in a Ritual map, several Altars will spawn. Each map features a shared random modifier affecting enemy types or mechanics (e.g., massive rat waves, life-draining blood pools).
To activate a Ritual, interact with an Altar after noting its modifiers. A large circle will appear; remain within it and eliminate all enemies to complete the Ritual. Leaving the circle prematurely ends the event without rewards. A map is considered complete only after all its Rituals are successfully finished.
The King in the Mists: The Pinnacle Boss
'An Audience With The King,' a unique currency item obtained from Ritual Favours, unlocks the Crux of Nothingness, home to the King in the Mists Pinnacle Boss. This boss shares mechanics with the Act 1 Cruel version found in Freythorn (useful for practice).
Defeating the King in the Mists awards two Ritual Passive Skill points, a chance at unique PoE 2 items, powerful currencies, and Omen items.
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree
The Ritual Passive Skill Tree, accessible via the Atlas Passive Skill Tree screen (bottom right), enhances Ritual events. Nodes modify Tribute requirements, improve rewards, and boost unique currency drop rates. The tree features eight Notable nodes and eight nodes increasing King in the Mists difficulty. Defeating the King in the Mists grants two points, necessitating increased difficulty with each new Notable node.
Notable Ritual Passive Nodes:
Notable Passive Node | Effect | Requirements |
---|---|---|
Promised Devotion | Ritual Altar skills deal 25% increased Damage. Deferring Favours requires 50% less Tribute, appearing 50% sooner. | N/A |
From The Mists | Rituals contain 2 extra packs of enemies. | N/A |
Reinvigorated Sacrifices | Revived monsters gain 20% Toughness and deal 10% more damage, but no longer penalize Tribute. | From The Mists |
Spreading Darkness | Maps always contain 4 Ritual Altars. | N/A |
Between Two Worlds | Rituals always contain a Wildwood Wisp, increasing Tribute earned. | Spreading Darkness |
Ominous Portents | Monster waves spawn 25% faster, but Favours are 50% more likely to contain an Omen. | N/A |
He Approaches | Revived monsters have a 20% chance to be Magic or Rare. Rituals have a 50% chance to contain "An Audience With The King". | Ominous Portents |
Tempting Offers | Allows an extra Favour re-roll at 25% reduced Tribute cost. | N/A |
Prioritize 'From The Mists,' 'Spreading Darkness,' and 'Ominous Portents' initially for increased rewards with minimal drawbacks. Then, focus on 'Tempting Offers' and 'He Approaches' for better Omen and "An Audience With The King" chances.
Ritual Rewards: Tribute and Favours
Completed Rituals grant Tribute, a temporary currency used to purchase randomized Favours. More Altars completed increase Tribute and unlock more Favour options, ranging from Magic items and low-level currencies to Rare gear and high-tier currencies. "An Audience With The King" is exclusively obtained through Favours.
Omen Currencies: Powerful Omen items can significantly enhance other Currency items. These are consumed upon use and are highly valuable, either for direct use or trading.
All PoE 2 Omen Currencies:
Beyond the Tribute/Favour system, Ritual enemies drop high-tier currencies (Exalted Orbs, Vaal Orbs, etc.). The King in the Mists has a chance to drop Uniques from a Ritual-exclusive pool.
