Moonstone, the latest addition to Marvel Snap's roster, is an Ongoing card that can mimic the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. Think of her as an upgraded version of Mystique. However, crafting a robust deck around this potent yet delicate card is challenging, earning her the moniker "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP."
After extensive testing, I've identified that the two most effective decks for Moonstone are Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will detail how to build and optimize these decks. If you're still unsure about adding Moonstone to your collection, a brief review at the end will help you make an informed decision.
Moonstone (4–6)

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)
Season: Dark Avengers
Release: January 15, 2025
The Best Deck for Moonstone
Moonstone excels in decks where she supports rather than leads. For a dependable setup, consider integrating Moonstone into a Patriot-Ultron deck. The strategy is to have her replicate one or two crucial Ongoing effects, rather than depending entirely on her ability.
To build a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.
Card | Cost | Power |
---|---|---|
Moonstone | 4 | 6 |
Patriot | 3 | 1 |
Ultron | 6 | 8 |
Brood | 3 | 2 |
Ant-Man | 1 | 1 |
Mystique | 3 | 0 |
Iron Man | 5 | 0 |
Mister Sinister | 2 | 2 |
Dazzler | 2 | 2 |
Squirrel Girl | 1 | 2 |
Mockingbird | 6 | 9 |
Blue Marvel | 5 | 3 |
Moonstone Deck Synergies
- Prepare the board for buffs by playing Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl.
- Use one lane to play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone (preferably in that order).
- Play Ultron in the final round to fill all locations and benefit from the buffs one last time.
- Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird serve as backup cards to compensate for any power deficit in one or two lanes if needed.
An Alternative Deck for Moonstone
For a thrilling yet less consistent gameplay experience, pair Moonstone with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. Use Moonstone as a win condition alongside these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.
Card | Cost | Power |
---|---|---|
Moonstone | 4 | 6 |
Onslaught | 6 | 7 |
The Living Tribunal | 6 | 9 |
Mystique | 3 | 0 |
Ravonna Renslayer | 2 | 2 |
Iron Man | 5 | 0 |
Captain America | 3 | 3 |
Howard the Duck | 1 | 2 |
Magik | 3 | 2 |
Psylocke | 2 | 2 |
Sera | 5 | 4 |
Iron Lad | 4 | 6 |
Here’s the ideal play line:
- Use Psylocke to play Moonstone early.
- Play Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man into her lane.
- In the final round, distribute the Power across all lanes with The Living Tribunal.
In this setup, Psylocke and Sera provide discounts, allowing you to play key cards earlier. Magik extends the match, enabling the play of Onslaught, followed by The Living Tribunal. Meanwhile, cards like Captain America and Iron Lad serve as backups if you don't draw the necessary cards in time.
Many players anticipated that the Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal trio would become a staple in the metagame post-release, with some even considering it her natural fit. However, few predicted that Super Skrull would become her arch-nemesis in this setup.
How to Counter Moonstone
Moonstone players face a significant challenge from Super Skrull. Since her release, many have added Super Skrull to their decks to counter Moonstone effectively. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also serve as counters, making Moonstone quite vulnerable.
The primary weakness of Moonstone is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her own lane. Unless you conceal her behind cards like Invisible Woman, your opponent can easily neutralize that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they could play Super Skrull in another lane to disrupt your strategy.
Is Moonstone Worth It?
Moonstone is a worthwhile investment of your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her robust ability will become increasingly valuable as more Ongoing cards that synergize with her are introduced; 2) She's featured in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, reducing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She's one of the most nostalgic new cards in Marvel Snap. If you yearn for the days of executing wild combos that significantly boost your board, Moonstone is a card you'll want to acquire.
