Universal Pictures has unveiled the first captivating image from Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film, "The Odyssey," showcasing Hollywood icon Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus. Following the monumental success of his 2023 biopic "Oppenheimer," Nolan's latest venture is a modern retelling of the ancient Greek epic poem originally penned in the 8th or 7th century BC. "The Odyssey" is slated for a grand release on July 17, 2026.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Christopher Nolan’s next film ‘The Odyssey’ is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026.

"The Odyssey" chronicles the arduous journey of Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, as he navigates the world for a decade in his quest to return home following the Trojan War. While Universal has kept additional plot details under wraps, early reports have begun to outline an impressive ensemble cast that will join Damon in this epic tale.

Matt Damon, who was the first actor linked to the project, marks his return to Universal after starring in "Oppenheimer," which clinched seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Rumors suggest that Damon may be accompanied by an all-star lineup including Charlize Theron, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong'o, and Robert Pattinson, promising a cinematic experience like no other.
