Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, introducing a new chapter set after the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. This new volume will follow the iconic trio of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa as they strive to establish the New Republic and bring order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict. The series is penned by Alex Segura, who previously helmed the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, and illustrated by Phil Noto, a veteran in the Star Wars comic universe known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto, along with Leinil Yu, will also provide covers for the debut issue.

Set approximately two years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the series picks up after the final major confrontation between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance at the Battle of Jakku. As the New Republic endeavors to assert its authority, Luke and his allies confront new threats from pirates, thieves, and other villains exploiting the ensuing power vacuum.

Alex Segura shared his excitement about the new direction, stating to StarWars.com, "Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking. These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."

Phil Noto added, "Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline."

The first issue, Star Wars #1, is slated for release on May 7, 2025, perfectly timed to coincide with Star Wars Day celebrations.

This new series is not the only post-Return of the Jedi comic Marvel has planned. In February, the publisher will launch Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, which will delve into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
