In Assassin's Creed Shadows, legendary Sumi-E are unique, ancient paintings of animals that Naoe or Yasuke can create while exploring the wilds. You'll spot a painting icon on your compass and map when you're near one of these subjects. To capture these beautiful images, simply crouch and stealthily approach the target. Once close enough, hold L2/LT to complete the painting. However, locating the legendary Sumi-E is more challenging as they don't appear on the map. There are five legendary Sumi-E in the game, each tied to specific seasons and times of day.

Legendary Tanuki – Summer, Daytime

To find the Legendary Tanuki Sumi-E, journey to the Omi region during the summer and daytime. Head to the Shimmering Fields, specifically the Shigaraki Hamlet. Once there, look for Tanuki statues as a sign you're in the right place. Follow the path upward, and in a clearing, you'll spot the legendary Tanuki. Take your time to approach and complete the drawing.

Legendary Grey Heron – Winter, Daytime

Locate the Grey Heron in the Wakasa region, near Lake Suigetsu, during winter and daytime. Navigate to the cluster of islands west of Lake Suigetsu. Approach cautiously without rushing in on your mount. Dismount at a safe distance, walk to the marked area on the map, and slowly crouch toward the target to finish the Sumi-E.

Legendary Macaque – All Seasons, Nighttime

Travel to the Yamashiro region and locate the Little Leaf Glade sub-region. Find the Sarumaru Shrine near the mountains. Wait until nighttime, then ascend the stairs to the top. There, you'll find the three wise monkeys, ready to be captured in your Sumi-E.

Legendary Silver Fox – Autumn, Nighttime

The legendary Silver Fox Sumi-E is found at night during Autumn in the Kii region, specifically at the Nakahechi Route sub-region. Visit the Kamimisu Inari Shrine, marked by fox statues, and approach the cliff's edge to observe and draw this majestic creature.

Legendary Deer – Spring, Nighttime

Head to the Yamato region and the Yoshino sub-region during spring at night. The nearest fast-travel point is the Mountain Blossom Temple to the west. Follow the path eastward to reach the Sakura Meadows. Climb the slopes to find the legendary Deer in a clearing at the top, ready to be added to your Sumi-E collection.

Keep in mind that even at the correct location and time, the animals might not spawn. If this happens, fast-travel to a nearby location and return to try your luck again. With persistence, you'll soon complete your collection.
