Konami Announces a Suikoden Game for Mobile Called Suikoden STAR LEAP

Exciting news for fans of the classic RPG series: Suikoden is making a comeback with Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG developed by Konami in collaboration with MYTHRIL. This free-to-play game will be available on Android and iOS platforms, although no specific release date has been set yet—it's expected to launch later this year.

For those unfamiliar, Suikoden has been captivating gamers since its debut in 1995. Created by Yoshitaka Murayama and developed by Konami, the series draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel "Water Margin." Known as Suikoden in Japan, the franchise has enthralled players with its deep narratives involving political intrigue, the mystical True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny. Over the years, the series has expanded to include 11 entries, with the most recent release dating back to 2012. Rather than a direct sequel or a full revival, Konami is now bringing the iconic universe to mobile devices with Suikoden STAR LEAP.

What’s in Store?

Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while maintaining the series' signature quest to assemble 108 heroes. The game pays homage to its roots with a nostalgic pixel art style, as seen in the teaser trailer below.

The narrative centers around the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes that has significantly influenced the world. The protagonist, Hou, the son of a village chief, embarks on his journey after his first successful hunt is overshadowed by a devastating attack on his village. Accompanied by Hisui, a servant with a mysterious emotional suppression; Shirin, a childhood friend driven by a strong sense of justice; and Shapur, a former general turned butler, Hou sets out to restore peace.

While the announcement has stirred excitement, some fans remain skeptical. The community has been eagerly awaiting a true continuation of the series, but instead, Konami has opted to launch Suikoden STAR LEAP as a gacha game. We'll have a better understanding of how it resonates with the fanbase once it's released. In the meantime, keep an eye on the official website for the latest updates.
