Exciting news for fans of the gritty Marvel universe! Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as the iconic vigilante, The Punisher, following the release of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1. This time, he will star in a standalone Marvel special, reminiscent of the style seen in the Guardians of the Galaxy holiday special. Adding to the anticipation, Bernthal will not only star but also co-write this project alongside We Own This City director Reinaldo Marcus Green.
"It's like a shotgun blast of a story, but also has all the pathos and emotion that you want out of a Frank Castle story," Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel Television, shared with Entertainment Weekly. "It's so exciting."

The announcement of the Punisher one-shot aligns with Marvel Television's plans to bring back the Defenders on Disney+. This beloved street-level superhero team, comprising Matt Murdock's Daredevil, Krysten Ritter's Jessica Jones, Mike Colter's Luke Cage, and Finn Jones' Iron Fist, originally captivated audiences on Netflix. Their adventures have since been integrated into the MCU canon on Disney+.
Brad Winderbaum previously expressed his enthusiasm to Entertainment Weekly, stating, "It’s certainly exciting to be able to play in that sandbox. Obviously, we don’t have the unlimited storytelling resources like a comic book, [where] if you can draw it, you can do it. We’re dealing with actors and time and the massive scale of production in order to build a cinematic universe, especially on television. But I can just say that all those variables taken into account, it is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
Daredevil: Born Again, set to premiere on March 4, picks up where the Netflix series left off. It features the return of several beloved characters, including The Punisher and Vincent D'Onofrio's formidable Wilson Fisk (Kingpin). The new season introduces a chilling new threat in the form of the artistically inclined serial killer, Muse.
