inZOI: WooHoo Like Sims to Have Kids, But No Show

inZOI, the much-anticipated life simulation game, is set to introduce a unique approach to handling explicit content. As the game gears up for its early access release, fans are eager to learn about its features, particularly those concerning sex and nudity. During a recent "Ask Me (almost) Anything" session on inZOI’s official Discord channel, translated by Assistant Director Joel Lee, the development team shed light on these aspects.

There Will Be "Sort Of" A Sex Feature

The developers confirmed that inZOI will feature a "sort of" sex mechanic. Joel Lee explained, "Our answer is: sort of. There is a feature in the game that you obviously know what's happening, the male Zoi and the female Zoi are together, likely in bed, with the intention of creating babies. How visually apparent is that? That's where you have to go to your imagination. What you're seeing is not what you're seeing; you have to assume that's what's happening." This statement indicates that while the act will be implied, the visual representation will be toned down to cater to a broader audience. Compared to the more animated and less realistic approach of The Sims, inZOI aims for a more grounded experience.

Blurring Effects Don’t Work Well With inZOI

When addressing why Zois shower with their towels on, the developers revealed that blurring effects clash with inZOI’s realistic art style. Unlike cartoony games like The Sims, where pixelated blurring works well, inZOI's more lifelike visuals made the effect appear more suggestive. Moreover, during testing, a bug caused Zois to appear fully naked in mirrors, which the team promptly fixed to maintain the game's intended aesthetic and audience appeal.

Making inZOI Available to All

Despite the discussions around explicit content, inZOI has been rated T for Teen by the ESRB, akin to The Sims 4. This rating ensures that the game remains accessible to a wide demographic while maintaining a safe-for-work environment. Assistant Director Joel Lee emphasized the team's goal to make the game available to as many age groups as possible, saying, "We wanted to provide a game that was widely available to as many age groups as possible."
