The new Hunger Games novel, Sunrise on the Reaping, is my most eagerly awaited book release of 2025. It has consistently topped Amazon's best sellers list throughout the year, even securing a spot in the top five well before its release. It's no surprise that the latest work from Suzanne Collins is already a sensation, especially since all the Hunger Games books have been successfully adapted into movies. Excitingly, Sunrise on the Reaping is slated for its own cinematic adaptation in 2026.

What Is Sunrise on the Reaping About?

The new Hunger Games novel is the fifth installment in the series, but it explores a different segment of the timeline. Sunrise on the Reaping is set approximately 40 years after the events of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and 24 years before Katniss's story begins in the original Hunger Games novel. The narrative unfolds during the Second Quarter Quell, which was famously won by Haymitch Abernathy. Fans of the original novels will remember Haymitch as the mentor from District 12, portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the film adaptations.
