Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature wields the lightning element, making it immune to it. However, it's vulnerable to other elements, particularly water and ice. Aim for its head, which has a 4-star weakness, or its wings, which have a 3-star weakness. Avoid attacking its torso as it's quite resilient. If hitting the head is challenging, target its tail instead. The legs are also not ideal due to their strong protection. For status ailments, use everything except Stun and Paralysis, as the dragon's lightning element renders these ineffective.

Use a Flash Pod

A key strategy to swiftly defeat Rey Dau is deploying a Flash Pod. This tool will temporarily stun the monster, allowing you to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, aim for its horns, which will glow bright red in Focus Mode, to inflict significant damage.

Wear Element-Resistant Gear

To enhance your survivability, equip gear that boosts elemental resistance. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces incoming damage and provides resistance to Lightning and Fire, ideal for this battle. Consider eating a meal that boosts your elemental resistance as well. If dodging is a challenge, stay close to Rey Dau's legs, where it's less likely to hit you, as the monster primarily attacks areas in front and behind it.

Pay Attention to the Environment

Rey Dau will frequently change locations during the fight. In the open plains, use Vine Traps on the lone tree to briefly stun the monster. Be cautious when it returns to its nest, as it can follow up with a devastating lightning attack that can stun you. Patience is key here; avoid rushing in and risking a fatal shock.

How to Capture Rey Dau in Monster Hunter Wilds

Instead of fighting Rey Dau to the death, you can capture it for additional rewards. First, reduce its health until it's near death, indicated by a skull icon near its icon on the mini-map. Use a Pitfall Trap, as Shock Traps won't work on this lightning dragon. Follow up quickly with a Tranquilizer to ensure it doesn't escape. You only have a few seconds, so be prepared.
