GTA Online Could Continue Post-GTA 6 Launch
Take-Two to Back GTA Online Based on Player Interest

With GTA 6 on the horizon, fans are curious about GTA Online’s fate. While Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed specifics, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick shared optimistic insights in a February 14, 2025, IGN interview.
Zelnick avoided commenting on unannounced projects but offered a broader perspective. “We tend to support our titles as long as fans engage with them,” he explained, emphasizing Take-Two’s commitment to active communities.

Zelnick highlighted NBA 2K Online in China, launched in 2012, followed by a sequel in 2017. Both versions coexist due to strong player bases. “We’ve shown we’ll maintain legacy titles if the community stays invested,” he noted.
Based on Zelnick’s comments, GTA Online may endure alongside GTA 6 if players remain engaged. Given its decade-long profitability and enduring popularity, discontinuing GTA Online seems unlikely.
Rockstar May Develop a UGC Platform for GTA 6, Similar to Roblox and Fortnite

Rumors suggest Rockstar is crafting a GTA 6 online mode featuring user-generated content (UGC), akin to Roblox and Fortnite, per a February 17, 2025, Digiday report.
Digiday noted, “Rockstar has been engaging with leading Roblox, Fortnite, and GTA content creators to explore custom experiences within the upcoming game.” This could allow players to modify assets and environments, creating personalized sandbox experiences.

Such a move could expand GTA 6’s reach through creators and modders while boosting revenue via virtual item sales or revenue-sharing programs. Rockstar has not yet responded to Digiday’s inquiries.
Despite its age, GTA 5 and GTA Online remain Twitch’s third most-watched game. Integrating modders and creators into GTA 6’s online mode could amplify its presence across platforms.
