GTA 6 PC Release Hinted To Come At A Later Date

GTA 6 on PC: Unconfirmed, Yet Promising

While Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has not been officially announced for PC, recent comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick during an interview with IGN on February 10, 2025, offer a glimpse into potential plans. Zelnick highlighted that while their upcoming title Civilization 7 would launch on both console and PC, their strategy often involves staggered releases across different platforms. He remarked, "Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."

This approach aligns with Rockstar's past releases. For instance, GTA 5 debuted on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2014, and finally on PC in April 2015. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in October 2018, with a PC release following in November 2019.

Although a PC release for GTA 6 remains unconfirmed, Zelnick's comments suggest a keen interest in eventually bringing the game to the PC platform. Fans of the series are hopeful, given the historical pattern of major titles from the Grand Theft Auto series making their way to PC, albeit sometimes after console releases.

Take-Two's Confidence in GTA 6's Market Impact

Zelnick also emphasized the growing significance of the PC market, noting that PC versions of multiplatform games can account for up to 40% of total sales. He observed, "We have seen PC become a much more and more important part of what used to be a console business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see that trend continue."

Despite reports of declining console sales for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Zelnick remains optimistic about GTA 6's performance across all platforms. He believes that the release of major titles like GTA 6 can significantly boost console sales. "When you have a big title in the market and we have many of them coming, historically that has sold consoles," he stated.

Looking ahead to 2025, Zelnick anticipates a surge in console sales driven by a robust release schedule from various publishers, including Take-Two. He added, "I think the trend that you'd want to focus on is this increasing share of the market that is reflected in PC."

Grand Theft Auto 6 is slated for a Fall 2025 release, though specific dates have yet to be announced. Keep an eye on our dedicated Grand Theft Auto 6 page for the latest updates and news.

During the Take-Two Interactive Q3 Fiscal Conference Call on February 6, 2025, Zelnick expressed enthusiasm about expanding their game offerings to the upcoming Switch 2 console. He noted their long-standing partnership with Nintendo and a shift in their perspective on the platform. "We've had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo, and we've supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release," Zelnick said.

He pointed out that the Switch has evolved to cater to a broader audience, stating, "the Switch device can support any audience." With Civilization 7 already confirmed for the Switch, Zelnick added, "So while we have nothing specific to report, we actually would fully expect to support Switch." This opens the possibility for more Take-Two and Rockstar titles, including potentially GTA 6, to be available on the Switch 2 in the future.
