The developers of Civilization VII have sparked excitement among fans by hinting at the potential return of Gandhi, though not as part of the initial leader lineup but possibly as downloadable content (DLC). Dive deeper to understand why Firaxis Games chose to exclude Gandhi from the game's launch roster.
Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civilizations and Their Leaders
Hope remains high for Gandhi's return to Civilization VII. This revelation came during an IGN interview with Civ 7 lead designer Ed Beach on February 13, 2025. Beach hinted that while Gandhi might not be available at launch, fans could see him added later through DLC.
During the IGN interview, Beach shed light on the decision to omit previous civilizations and their leaders from Civ 7. "We haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated. "There's a lot of discussion about where Great Britain or England are, and why they aren't included in our game?"
The primary reason for excluding Britain and India from Civilization VII, according to Beach, was the necessity to make tough choices. "There are just too many popular choices, and we always want to introduce a few fresh ones that feel new and exciting to players," he explained. "So, some civilizations are left behind, but we're always considering the bigger picture for when we might reintroduce leaders or civilizations. There's hope for Gandhi, yet."
Given the extensive lineup of DLCs released for Civilization VI, it's reasonable to anticipate Gandhi's inclusion in Civilization VII. However, the exact timeline for this beloved leader's return remains uncertain.
