Who could forget GameStop's infamous Switch 2 launch blunder? Hundreds of customers received Nintendo's new console with receipt staples puncturing their screens.
Turns out GameStop remembers it too - their latest Switch 2 promotion cleverly references the mishap while announcing new stock arrivals.
"Staples not included," teases their social media post featuring the console alongside a red stapler labeled "Do Not Use On Box." The caption invites shoppers: "Find Switch 2 restocks at GameStop today."
The tongue-in-cheek ad drew mixed reactions - while some fans appreciated the humor, others questioned highlighting a costly error that destroyed thousands in merchandise.
IGN initially broke the stapler story shortly after the Switch 2's East Coast launch, with most incidents traced to a Staten Island GameStop location.
Affected customers described discovering the damage upon unboxing - staples securing receipts had pierced through the thin cardboard packaging into their screens.

This isn't GameStop's first nod to the incident. Their social team previously addressed it as an "isolated case" while sharing an Office Space GIF captioned "Staplers have been confiscated."
"We've offered replacements," they confirmed at the time.
Reactions to their latest post ranged from demanding confirmation of replacements ("Y'all better have replaced every stapled Switch 2") to joking suggestions ("Auction off the infamous stapler"). GameStop responded appropriately to each.

While GameStop maintains this was one store's error, IGN has heard similar damage reports from competing retailers - raising questions about Nintendo's decision to package the Switch 2 with screens facing outward.
When approached for comment, Nintendo redirected all inquiries back to GameStop's statements.
