Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Heaven?

At Droid Gamers, we receive a wide variety of gadgets, but a projector is a novelty for us. The Formovie Episode One, which promises to stream mobile games on a larger screen, seemed like the perfect piece of technology to explore, especially for those on a budget.

The Episode One certainly delivers on its promise of being an affordable option, although it does come with some caveats. Inside the box, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it may not have the substantial feel of higher-end projectors, its lighter weight—coming in at just three pounds—makes it incredibly portable, ideal for taking on the go.

However, some users might find the port selection limiting, with only one USB-A port, one HDMI port, and a single audio jack. Given the price point, this is understandable and should suffice for most users' needs.

Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own for its price range. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. Our tests revealed that it struggled in direct sunlight but performed admirably in darker environments, which is expected and reassuring.

Every movie and TV show we tested was displayed clearly, and streaming games worked smoothly as well. For the best image quality, we found that the projector needed to be positioned at least 10 feet away from the screen. The built-in speaker, while functional, produced a somewhat tinny sound, so we recommend connecting an external speaker for an enhanced audio experience.
