Fun Dog Studios has unveiled a major update for their extraction-survival game, The Forever Winter, titled The Descent to Averno is Easy. Currently in early access, this patch brings substantial changes to the game's core mechanics, significantly enhancing both the depth of gameplay and the overall player experience.

A standout feature of this update is the revamped water system. No longer consumed in real-time, water now functions as a currency that players use to access various regions. The cost to enter these regions fluctuates daily, adding a strategic layer to the game. Players can also trade water with their teammates before matches start. In response to these changes, quest rewards and the distribution of resources across the map have been recalibrated. Those who hoarded water prior to the update will be rewarded with a special bonus from the developers in upcoming patches.

Combat mechanics have undergone a comprehensive overhaul. Enhancements include improved recoil management, accuracy, weapon sway, and handling. Aiming mechanics, reload animations, and shotgun balance have also been refined. These modifications are already implemented for several weapons, with plans to extend these improvements to the entire weapon lineup in future updates.

The update also brings more realistic enemy AI, with clearer detection indicators that show how close enemies are to spotting the player. Enemies now respond more intelligently to their environment and combat situations. The spawn system has been reworked to ensure fairer gameplay by preventing enemies from spawning directly in front of or behind players.

To add variety to the gameplay, the update introduces two new features: the Stairway to Heaven map and a night mode for Frozen Swamp, which infuses the game with horror-inspired elements, enriching the atmosphere. Other enhancements include an improved looting system, revamped melee combat for enemies, and a fresh set of quests for players to explore.
