The Exit 8 has recently launched on Android, blending elements of a walking simulator with an eerie twist. Developed by Kotake Create and published by Playism, this game is available for $3.99 and promises a spine-tingling experience that challenges your every step.
A Creepy Walking Adventure
In The Exit 8, you find yourself navigating an endless underground passageway reminiscent of a Japanese metro station. The game traps you in a loop where the tiles, lights, posters, and even a solitary man walking towards you repeat endlessly. The core challenge lies in spotting anomalies—perhaps a poster with a different graphic, flickering lights, or even a river of blood instead of a floor. The gameplay revolves around noticing these subtle changes and reacting quickly.
If you notice something unusual, you must turn back. If not, you continue forward. Your objective is to reach the eighth exit without making a mistake, which means correctly identifying and responding to eight anomalies in a row. Fail, and you must start over.
The Exit 8 Lets You Soak in a Surreal, Unsettling Atmosphere
Inspired by the concept of liminal spaces and the Backrooms, The Exit 8's design draws from real Japanese metro stations, such as Kiyosumi-Shirakawa Station in Tokyo. The game immerses you in claustrophobic corridors and repetitive architecture, creating an unsettling atmosphere.
It encourages active engagement with your surroundings, prompting you to scrutinize every detail for signs of danger or reality shifting. The way it challenges your memory and perception ensures that each run through the game feels unique.
Initially released for PC in November 2023 after a nine-month development period, The Exit 8 garnered 1.4 million downloads worldwide on Steam. Now available on mobile, you can download it from the Google Play Store.
