Epic Unveils New 4-Player PVE Game: Lego Meets Helldivers

Years before Fortnite exploded into the battle royale spotlight, Epic Games introduced the world to its original vision: a cooperative PvE experience known as Save the World. In this early iteration, squads teamed up to fend off relentless waves of zombie-like Husks, combining shooting mechanics with base-building tactics. Now, Fortnite is circling back to its cooperative roots with Lego Fortnite Expeditions, a brand-new PvE mode designed for up to four players. This fresh addition blends the playful charm of Lego Fortnite with the tactical, mission-driven gameplay reminiscent of hits like Helldivers.

In Expeditions, players begin their journey at the Academy hub, the central base for planning and coordination. From here, teams can select from a variety of combat missions set across three distinct environments. Completing these missions doesn’t just reward individual squads—it contributes to global Team Projects that unlock persistent buffs for the entire player base and gradually introduce new mission types. When not out in the field, players can return to the Academy to take on Assignments from familiar Fortnite characters, adding depth and narrative engagement to the experience.

PlayAt launch, *Expeditions* features three unique map locations and three customizable hero classes, each with specialized abilities. The Shadow Caller excels in mobility and ranged destruction, capable of flight and explosive attacks, or slipping into Shadow Form to evade danger. The Hunter wields the Bull's-eye Blade, applying a mark that amplifies damage and improves accuracy for the entire team. The Rift Ripper manipulates space with warp abilities, fires rift crystals, and enhances the effectiveness of other classes, making them a powerful support asset.

Epic Games is positioning Expeditions as a permanent addition to the Fortnite lineup, marking it as the game’s third major Lego Fortnite experience—following the survival-driven Lego Odyssey and the lifestyle-sim Lego Brick Life. Unlike its predecessors, Expeditions is deeply integrated with the overarching Fortnite narrative. It shares the theme and central antagonist of the main Battle Royale storyline, creating a cohesive universe across modes.

At launch, players will confront Mask Maker Daigo and his army of minions, while aligning with iconic Battle Royale heroes—yes, Jonesy and Hope are part of the roster. The reveal trailer even features the current season’s branding, “Super,” and includes Superman, highlighting the mode’s ties to the ongoing crossover event. This integration suggests that Expeditions will evolve alongside future Battle Royale seasons, adapting its content to reflect the latest story arcs and themes.

Currently deep into its superhero-themed season—sparked by the dramatic destruction of the Star Wars Death Star—Fortnite is entering a pivotal week. Alongside Lego Fortnite Expeditions, Epic is launching Blitz Royale, a fast-paced 32-player battle royale mode optimized for mobile devices and shorter play sessions. Both Blitz Royale and Lego Fortnite Expeditions go live tomorrow, June 18, offering fans two exciting new ways to experience the ever-expanding world of Fortnite.
