Emoak's Roia Unveiled as Serene Mobile Sanctuary

Mobile gaming's innovative spirit shines brightly in titles like Roia, a testament to how smartphone design and broad accessibility fuel unique gameplay experiences. Roia, the latest from indie studio Emoak (creators of Paper Climb, Machinaero, and Lyxo), is a prime example.

This ingenious puzzle-adventure challenges players with a deceptively simple goal: guide a river to the sea. Starting from a mountain peak, players manipulate the landscape using their finger, carefully directing the water's flow.

Emoak's press release reveals a deeply personal connection for designer Tobias Sturn. Inspired by childhood memories of creekside play with his grandfather, Roia is a tribute to those experiences, created in the wake of his grandfather's passing.

Roia defies easy categorization. While challenges exist, the core experience is one of relaxation. Players journey through diverse environments—forests, meadows, villages—guided by a helpful bird.

The game's visuals echo the elegant simplicity of Monument Valley, complemented by a captivating soundtrack composed by Johannes Johannson (also behind Lyxo's music).
