Today, Bandai Namco Entertainment and American film company A24 announced the development of a live-action adaptation of Elden Ring. Spearheaded by the visionary Alex Garland, known for his works such as "Ex Machina," "Civil War," and "Warfare," this film aims to capture the "epic world and intense action" of the beloved game. The project is being produced by a powerhouse team including Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich from DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin, the creator of "A Song of Ice and Fire," and Vince Gerardis, co-executive producer of "Game of Thrones." While it remains uncertain whether Hidetaka Miyazaki, the president of FromSoftware and director of Elden Ring, will be involved, fans are eagerly awaiting more updates on the plot and cast.

Elden Ring Coming Off Strong This 2025

As the live-action film takes shape, the Elden Ring video game series continues to thrive. Originally launched in 2022, Elden Ring quickly became a phenomenon, selling over 13.4 million copies within just five weeks of its release. By April 2025, the game had sold an impressive 30 million copies worldwide, as celebrated by the official Elden Ring X (Twitter) account. This milestone underscores the game's status as one of the most popular and decorated titles in video game history, amassing over 324 Game of the Year awards across various media and ceremonies. The 2024 DLC, "Shadow of the Erdtree," further solidified its acclaim.

Looking ahead to 2025, FromSoftware is not slowing down. They are set to release two new titles for the franchise. "Elden Ring Nightreign," a cooperative action game, invites players to explore the new realm of Limveld as Nightfarers, tasked with thwarting the rise of the Nightlord. This spinoff retains elements of the original while offering a fresh multiplayer experience and is slated for release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30th.

Additionally, "Elden Ring Tarnished Edition" is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. This complete edition will feature the "Shadow of the Erdtree" DLC, along with four new armor sets and a customization feature for the three variants of Torrent the Spectral Steed.
