Dungeons & Dragons Live Action Netflix Series in the Works, Could Launch a ‘D&D Universe’

Netflix is developing a live-action Dungeons & Dragons series based on the Forgotten Realms setting, according to Deadline. The project is spearheaded by Shawn Levy (director of Deadpool and Wolverine), with Drew Crevello (WeCrashed) serving as writer and showrunner. This marks a significant investment by Netflix in the fantasy genre. The series, still in early development, has the potential to launch a larger D&D universe on the streaming platform. While Netflix and Hasbro declined to comment, Deadline reports that the pilot script is complete and that negotiations concluded successfully.

Despite the positive outlook for this new series, a sequel to the well-received Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves remains uncertain. While star Chris Pine expressed interest in a return, Paramount Pictures' CEO, Brian Robbins, has indicated a sequel would only proceed with a reduced budget. Meanwhile, Amazon's Secret Level anthology series features a D&D animated segment.
