Disney Lorcana has just unveiled a wealth of exciting updates for fans of the trading card game, setting the stage for an action-packed future. The ninth set, titled "Fabled," is slated for release on September 5, 2025, and will introduce the first-ever Iconic and Epic cards, alongside the much-anticipated addition of cards from A Goofy Movie. Alongside Fabled, detailed information was shared about the eighth set, "Reign of Jafar," set to debut on June 6, along with a new Collection Starter Set and insights into the upcoming Disney Lorcana World Championship. Fans also got a glimpse of what's to come with teases of Darkwing Duck joining the game.
Fabled Will Add Iconic and Epic Cards, A Goofy Movie, and Rotating Cards for Competitive Play
While we eagerly await more details about Fabled, the anticipation is building as the set's pre-release is scheduled for August 29, followed by a wide release on September 5. The inclusion of A Goofy Movie cards is a significant addition, though specifics on which cards will be included remain under wraps. However, the team has confirmed that Mickey and Minnie will grace the set as the inaugural Iconic Cards.
Iconic Cards, the rarest in Lorcana, will feature only two per set moving forward, and the first ones will depict Mickey and Minnie on a carousel, making them highly sought after by collectors. Alongside these, Epic Cards will be introduced, rarer than Legendary but more accessible than Enchanted and Iconic. These cards will showcase special artwork and foil treatments, with a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card being a highlight.
A notable change with Fabled is the introduction of card rotation, where certain cards from the first four sets will no longer be legal in top-level competitive play, known as Core Constructed. However, fans of older cards can still enjoy them in a new format called Infinity Constructed. Additionally, Fabled will include reprints of cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will remain usable in competitive play.
Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co-Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger, emphasized the importance of card rotation, stating, "To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter. But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans' deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we're re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled. Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!"
For newcomers eager to dive into Lorcana, the team has introduced a Collection Starter Set, which includes four Fabled booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor), and a collector's guide.
Reign of Jafar Offers Aladdin and Bambi Cards Alongside a New Co-Op Adventure
Reign of Jafar, the eighth set, is set for pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6. Continuing the ongoing narrative, this set focuses on the Disney villain Jafar, who has now corrupted Archazia's Island with the Hexwell Crown. Players will navigate traps and illusions, with characters like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber working together to reclaim the crown and defeat Jafar.

Accompanying Reign of Jafar is the Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new co-op experience-in-a-box designed for up to four players to team up against Jafar and his minions. Fans can look forward to collecting cards such as Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), and more.
Teases of the Future Include Whispers in the Well and Darkwing Duck
Looking ahead, the set following Fabled will be called Whispers in the Well, set to arrive in Q4 2025. Although details are sparse, the key art hints at the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and potentially Disney Gargoyles, along with a new type of Glimmer. Further into the future, the much-requested Darkwing Duck is confirmed to join Lorcana in 2026.
Get Ready For the Disney Lorcana World Championship
The competitive scene in Lorcana is ramping up with the Disney Lorcana World Championship scheduled for June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. This prestigious tournament will crown the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion, with participants from around the globe vying for the title.
