Disney has officially announced the future locations for two highly anticipated attractions at Disneyland: the first-ever Coco-themed experience and a new Avatar-inspired land. According to the Disney Parks Blog, the Coco attraction will be built in areas currently used for backstage operations near Disney California Adventure’s Paradise Gardens Park and Pixar Pier. Construction is set to begin this fall, with the project taking shape behind the scenes before expanding into a fully realized guest destination.
Meanwhile, the new Avatar land will occupy a portion of the existing Hollywood Backlot area, which means that Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026 to make way for this immersive new world. The announcement, first revealed at D23 2024, marks a major evolution for Disneyland’s themed lands.
The Coco attraction will draw creative inspiration from classic Disneyland experiences like Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, blending storytelling with cutting-edge technology. Disney Imagineers are utilizing the latest Audio-Animatronics to bring the film’s skeletal characters to life in ways that "you have to see to believe." This will be the first attraction dedicated to the beloved Pixar film, celebrating its rich cultural themes and vibrant visuals.

The Avatar destination is still in the early stages of development, with more details—including construction timelines—to be shared at a later date. Inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water and upcoming sequels, this new land will bring the world of Pandora to Disneyland in a fresh and immersive way. While Pandora – The World of Avatar has been a standout at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom since 2017, this marks the first time the Avatar universe will be brought to life at Disneyland.

Though the closure of Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! is bittersweet, fans will soon have a new way to experience the franchise at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios, where an all-new Monsters, Inc. land is under development. It will feature the first suspended roller coaster in a Disney park, taking guests on a thrilling ride through the iconic door warehouse.
In addition to these major attractions, Disney confirmed plans for a new parking structure and transportation hub on the east side of the Disneyland Resort. This facility will be built on part of the current Manchester cast member parking lot and will offer approximately 6,000 parking spaces. It will also include dedicated areas for shuttles and rideshares, security screening, and improved traffic access from Disney Way.
A key feature of the new hub is a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard, leading to an all-new esplanade arrival experience. This will not only enhance guest flow but also provide direct access to and from Harbor Boulevard, streamlining the arrival process for visitors.
