While waiting for the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages, many are revisiting the classic DOOM and DOOM II. Good news for fans: development has resumed, and a recent update significantly enhances the experience.
The update focuses on improving the technical aspects and adding new features to the DOOM + DOOM II compilation. Crucially, support for multiplayer modifications has been implemented. Mods created using Vanilla DOOM, DeHackEd, MBF21, or BOOM are now compatible. Cooperative play has also been improved, allowing all players to pick up items and introducing an observer mode for players waiting to be revived. Multiplayer network code has been optimized, and the mod loader can now handle over 100 subscribed mods.
Looking ahead to DOOM: The Dark Ages, accessibility is a key focus. The game will offer extensive customization options, surpassing previous id Software titles. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasizes the team's commitment to making the game accessible to all players.
Players will be able to adjust enemy damage and difficulty, projectile speed and damage, and other parameters like game tempo, demon aggression, and parry timing. Importantly, Stratton confirms that prior experience with DOOM: The Dark Ages isn't necessary to understand its narrative, which connects to DOOM Eternal.
