How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To embark on a romantic journey with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Once the offering is complete, a cutscene will play where the Mines Priestess warns you to leave or risk being sealed. As your character's health depletes, Caldarus dramatically appears, transforming into his human form. He grants you the Dragon’s Breath spell before retreating to the Deep Woods. In his human guise, you can now engage in daily conversations and gift-giving with Caldarus, just as you would with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria.

After breaking the Fire Seal, Caldarus can be exclusively found at his temple in the Deep Woods. To permanently unlock this area on your map, you will need to use the Dragon’s Breath spell.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus begins his romance journey with a starting heart level of six, which is currently the maximum. This means there are no additional heart events available for Caldarus at the moment, though more are expected in future updates. Currently, there are only a couple of cutscenes involving him. The first is a dream sequence at the game's start, introducing Mistria’s magic system and gameplay mechanics. The second occurs after breaking the Fire Seal, where Caldarus rescues you and reveals his human form before retreating to the Deep Woods to recuperate. These scenes naturally unfold as part of the game's storyline.

Following the March 2025 update, you can trigger a special date with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival, an in-game event held on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take any romanceable NPC with a heart level of four or higher on a date to the Summit to watch the stars. Given Caldarus' starting heart level of six, you're set to attend with him. To secure your date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterward to confirm. This will initiate a cutscene of your date. Spoilers ahead!

At the Summit, Caldarus expresses gratitude for your invitation and delves into the stars and the historical Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your dialogue choices explore themes of soul-binding and connections, touching on the idea that not all connections are joyful and the necessity of villains in every story. Caldarus ponders if you've attended this event together in a past life, followed by a moment of fatigue. He then invites you to spend the rest of the evening watching the stars from his temple.
