NieR: Automata's opening introduces players to 2B's mission. After deploying and engaging in initial melee combat, you'll acquire a one-handed and a two-handed sword.
The two-handed weapon, the Virtuous Treaty, is a powerful early-game sword temporarily lost after the prologue. However, it's quickly recoverable once free-roaming is unlocked in the subsequent chapter.

Where To Find the Virtuous Treaty in NieR: Automata
This early-game weapon is located near your initial spawn point after exiting the bunker. Upon landing in the city ruins, descend to the lower area. To the left, you'll spot a highway above the nearest access point. Proceed towards the highway, climbing the ruins to reach the main road. This path leads back towards the factory.
Descend into the factory area and follow the grassy path towards the main structure. On the left, you'll find another access point with stairs leading upwards. In this upper area, locate the destroyed bridge where you encountered the Goliath-class enemy. The Virtuous Treaty is embedded in the ground at the bridge's edge.
Your discarded body is located just to the right of the sword, allowing you to recover any remaining consumables from the prologue.

Virtuous Treaty Stats in NieR: Automata
- Attack: 300-330
- Combo: Light 2, Heavy 2
Typical of two-handed weapons, the Virtuous Treaty excels at wide-sweeping attacks, dealing significant damage to multiple enemies. Its attack speed is notably slower. However, upgrades can potentially make this weapon one of the highest-damage options in the game, provided you adapt to its slower pace. You can also incorporate it into combos with faster weapons by using a heavy attack during a lighter weapon's combo sequence. While this prevents a full Virtuous Treaty combo, it leverages its high damage output while mitigating its slow speed.
