Koei Tecmo has announced the end-of-service for Atelier Resleriana: Forgotten Alchemy and the Polar Night Liberator, less than a year after its global launch. All services will cease on March 28th, with in-app purchases ending earlier on January 27th. Several in-game events are planned between now and the shutdown date.
This decision follows the developers' admission that they couldn't maintain the quality standards they initially set. Despite ongoing improvements and events, they concluded that continued operation wasn't feasible. Players can still spend existing Lodestar Gems, but further purchases are unavailable.
The announcement may not be entirely unexpected for many players. The saturated gacha market presents significant challenges for new releases, and Atelier Resleriana, while showing promise, struggled with several key areas. Criticism centered on gacha and banner rates, often cited as frustrating obstacles to progression. The alchemy system, a core element of the Atelier series, failed to deliver the expected level of creative engagement. While the gameplay itself was functional, it lacked the compelling factor to compete effectively within the genre.
Looking back, the game faced an uphill battle from its launch. While many players on Twitter and Reddit are requesting an offline version, its feasibility remains doubtful. For those who enjoyed Atelier Resleriana's turn-based RPG elements, make the most of the remaining months.
