Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author: Camila Mar 28,2025

Ubisoft's latest addition to the iconic stealth-action open-world series, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived, bringing players to 16th-century Japan with protagonists Naoe and Yasuke. As the 14th installment in the mainline series, which began with Desmond Miles and Altaïr in 2007, it's time to reflect on where Shadows stands among its predecessors. We invite you to rank the mainline entries of the Assassin's Creed series, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR entries, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

My personal tier list, based on enjoyment, places Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag at the top of the S-tier, cherished for its seamless blend of island exploration, thrilling ship combat, and a vibrant cast of characters. It shares the S-tier with Assassin's Creed 2, the game that truly launched the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, drawn in by its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame, alongside Unity, whose depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains breathtaking even after a decade.
