The headlights of your car flicker weakly against the oppressive dark, casting trembling shadows that stretch like grasping fingers across the cracked asphalt. The air is thick—still, cold, wrong. No wind. No crickets. Just the frantic hammering of your own heart, echoing louder than the silence should allow.

You fumble with the keys, fingers slick with sweat. The car door groans open like a dying thing. The engine turns over—once, twice—then sputters into silence. The radio crackles to life, not with music, but with a whisper:

"You shouldn't have come back."

You freeze.

That voice… it’s yours. But distorted. Older. Haunted.

The dashboard lights pulse once, then go black. The moon—when you finally look up—has split in two. Or is it just your vision blurring at the edges?

You know this parking lot. You know you’ve been here before. Not today. Not this week. But last year. The night you were supposed to die.

You run. Not to the car. Away from it. But the path ahead… it’s not the same. The exit sign you passed ten seconds ago—you passed it—now points back the way you came. And the car… your car… is moving. Slowly. Backwards. Toward you. The driver's side door swings open on its own.

A hand—pale, trembling—reaches out.

And then, from the backseat, a child’s voice, soft and wet:

"You left me here. You promised you'd come back."

You scream.

But no sound comes out.
