Your car glows faintly ahead—a pale, metallic silhouette, doors slightly ajar. You left them locked. You know you did.

But now, the engine clicks. Not starting. Not even turning over. Just… a single, dry click, like a bone snapping in the dark.

Then, from deep within the shadows between the rusted SUV and the collapsed chain-link fence, a sound.

Not wind.

Not a car engine.

A laugh—low, wet, and wrong—like something old and starving trying to mimic human sound.

You clutch your keys tighter. They’re cold. Too cold. They don’t feel like metal anymore. They feel like teeth.

You take a step forward.
The pavement cracks beneath your boot.

And then—
The car’s headlights flicker on.

Not by your hand. Not by your mind.

They ignite, blinding, white-hot, and for one terrible second, you see something in the back seat.

Not a shape.
Not a shadow.

A face.
Smiling.
With too many teeth.

Then the lights go out.

Silence.

And now, from every direction, you hear it—
The sound of footsteps.

On skin.
And they’re getting closer.
